What you'll learn in this crafts class:

If you've ever wanted to experiment with cyanotypes in a quick and easy format, this workshop is for you! We'll use pre-sensitized cyanotype fabric and paper, along with hand-painted sheets I've prepared in advance to create beautiful blue-hued photograms with very little muss and fuss. These prints are made by placing objects directly on the photo-sensitive fabric, exposing it to sunlight, then rinsing to reveal your image. It's an incredibly fun activity with a lot of room for experimentation.

During the workshop we'll:
  • discuss inspiration and ideas
  • go over materials needed (thankfully not many!)
  • create prints using several types of surfaces
We won't focus much on the history or science behind the process in order to get you up and printing quickly, creating amazing photograms from nature and things you have laying around the house. And though we won't be working with photo negatives in this session, but we will have some fun transparent designs to play around with. Everyone will make a couple of test prints and as many full size prints as time allows, which can be framed to create custom art. You're welcome to bring materials from home or comb through our stash.

Beginners encouraged!

Heads up! This class is weather dependent, so if it's rainy or cloudy we'll have to reschedule!

Refund Policy
If you're looking for a refund or class credit, you need to back out of the class a full week before it starts. (No exceptions!) We know it's draconian, but since we aren't charging an arm and a leg and have to buy all our materials in advance, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings.

We also can't transfer registrations to a future session of the class. Sorry!

Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around and see if any of your friends want the spot. We can't give you a refund less than a week out, even if there's a wait list for the class.

Regarding bad weather, we generally only cancel classes if the subway system stops running. If traveling during snowstorms might be an issue for you, please take this into account before registering for a class.

Hi Zoia! You can save this class to your wish list so you'll be notified when we add new dates and we'd probably have evening weekend classes soon.

Jen did a fabulous job teaching this class! She started with a great lesson on the history of the subject and then provided lots of examples about the process. Later, we enjoyed making our own pieces. Jen has an approachable manner, and she made us feel so comfortable. I highly recommend her classes, and I look forward to my next visit to the city, so I can take more of Jen’s classes.
