What you'll learn in this beginner drawing class:

This is a beginning class in drawing and painting designed for those with little or no artistic training. Weekly exercises will train the student to master the foundation skills needed to continue to more advanced courses. Exercises include value scales, sighting, construction, and still life. Classes begin with demonstrations of the exercises followed by one-on-one instruction. Students will also be given optional "homework" assignments that will expand on the material presented in class.

Students will leave class with everything they need to draw and paint.

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one?
A: No, there are no makeup classes. Because art is taught with demonstrations and demonstrations are time consuming, if one person misses the class each week, the instructor would spend the first part of each class repeating the demonstration from last week before moving on to the next lesson, which isn't fair to the students who attended. That said, most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration, the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-on-one basis. During this time, the instructor can work with you if you missed the previous week to talk and explain what to do.

Q: Are materials provided and included in the cost of the class?
A: Yes.

Refund Policy
100% refund will be issued up to seven days after the first class. After this, no refund will be issued.

Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup classes. The instructor can tell them what they missed. Most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-to-one basis. During this time the instructor can work with the student who missed the previous week, talk with them and explain what to do.

Question from Mi G.
Hi, what kind of painting will be teaching? I’m looking to learn drawing and watercolor painting. Thank you!
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Nikki! The class utilizes water-soluble oil paints. The goal is to teach oil painting, but with an easy cleanup. They do teach watercolor classes, just not in the Introduction to Drawing and painting class. You may check the Watercolor Painting class here: Hope this helps!
Question from Luz Maria P.
When will the course be given again?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Luz! We don't have the dates yet but you can definitely save the class to your wish list so you'd be notified when new dates are up on our website.

While I liked the teacher and appreciated the focus on technique, I found this class to be quite boring and that it stifled creative expression. It perhaps my fault, for not understanding "academic art," the other art classes I have taken at different schools and studios in New York City, pushed me to create and I preferred producing interesting pieces rather than just working on straightforward still lives and spheres in this case.
