What you'll learn in this clay class:

Taught by a professor of sculpture and anatomy in the Academy's graduate school, this course offers instruction to students of all levels in modeling the human form. Working from the live model, students will sculpt a standing, seated, or reclining figure or a portrait head. Both water-based and oil-based clay will be provided, as well as armatures, as needed. Students using water-based clay can have their completed sculptures fired in the school kiln.

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one?
A: No, there are no makeup classes. Because art is taught with demonstrations and demonstrations are time consuming, if one person misses the class each week, the instructor would spend the first part of each class repeating the demonstration from last week before moving on to the next lesson, which isn't fair to the students who attended. That said, most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration, the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-on-one basis. During this time, the instructor can work with you if you missed the previous week to talk and explain what to do.

Q: Are materials provided and included in the cost of the class?
A: Yes.

Refund Policy
100% refund will be issued up to seven days after the first class. After this, no refund will be issued.

Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup classes. The instructor can tell them what they missed. Most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-to-one basis. During this time the instructor can work with the student who missed the previous week, talk with them and explain what to do.

Sculpting the Figure
Reviewed by Anonymous on 8/3/2017
THIS IS A GREAT CLASS! Cynthia is an amazing teacher. The structure of the class is pretty loose, which is perfect for people who like to learn from doing, rather than from endless demonstrations and lectures. Perfect for beginners! I had never touched clay before taking this class and Cynthia and the other students made me feel incredibly comfortable and I ended up with a piece I am very proud of. If you have any interest in figurative sculpture, but no idea where to start, TAKE THIS CLASS! You won't regret it.
