Julia Walther

Julia is the daughter of a wood-worker and a violist, she grew up in Oakland, California. Julia\\\'s father noticed her proclivity for making miniature fruit baskets in her Montessori art class and bought her a few packages of Sculpey® III, thus beginning a life-long career. Julia went on to study at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota where she received a B.A. in Art History and rediscovered ceramics her senior year under the tutelage of Kelly Connole.

After graduating, Julia attended the summer ceramics program at Alfred University in New York, followed by a year in the post-baccalaureate ceramics program at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Between 2011 and 2014, Julia worked as an educational assistant at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, taught community classes at Pewabic Pottery in Detroit and spent two years working with the wonderful folks at Motawi Tileworks and Rovin Ceramics in Ann Arbor. In 2012 Julia won a residency at John Glick\\\'s Plum Tree Pottery and spent two years working beside him in his studio. In the summer of 2014, Julia and her husband relocated to Washington, D.C. and just joined Red Dirt Studio as a resident artist. 
Julia has a penchant for factory tours and bow-tie pasta, and reads Dear Abby daily.
