Join a photography workshop at Union Station, a premier Washington D.C. location that showcases some of the area's most compelling photographic opportunities. As one of the major transportation hubs in Washington, D.C. and among the busiest in the United States, Union Station provides abundant subjects for photographers seeking to develop their craft. Your DPA instructor will guide you through photographing the station's beautiful architectural features, approaching people respectfully for candid portraits during their daily activities, and identifying optimal angles for various shots.
Working in a small group of no more than 12 participants, you will complete the session with polished and professional-quality photographs. The intimate group size ensures personalized interaction with your instructor as they teach you the core principles of composition, color balance, and exposure management.
Union Station serves as a major connecting point for regional and national rail services, local bus transit, and includes a shopping mall within its distinctive architectural envelope. These features make it both a practical transportation center and a leisure destination with endless subjects to photograph.
Meet at the main foyer of Union Station outside the Joseph A. Bank store.

Each Composition in the Field class begins with an instructional talk from one of our experienced photographers, followed by a guided exploration of one of several diverse photogenic locations across the DPA's network of 20+ cities. Participants will encounter street photography venues, striking interior spaces, farmers' markets, zoos, landscape sites, and additional settings. The curriculum features photographs taken by both students and instructors in various locations throughout the United States and Canada.
During this three-hour workshop, you will enjoy the learning experience, develop strategic shooting techniques, capture more compelling photographs, and acquire foundational skills to enhance your photography in diverse situations, from travel excursions to family gatherings to everyday moments.
