Class Description

Description

In this intensive 12-hour class, students will gain a thorough grounding in the principles and practice of natural dyeing. The curriculum covers natural dye sources and how to identify them, techniques for extracting color from plant materials, and a complete introduction to mordants, including what they are, how they work, and how to apply them to fix natural dyes permanently to different fibers. By the end of the class, students will leave with the substantial beginnings of a well-organized swatch library documenting a range of fibers, dye sources, mordants, and modifiers. Bring any materials you are curious to experiment with!

Our classes are built around the development of a lasting skill rather than the completion of a single project. At TAC, our mission is to equip students with knowledge and techniques they can practice and build on for life. All materials for sample-making and technique demonstration are provided. Additional materials beyond the standard kit should be supplied by the student based on their individual goals.

Students enrolled in Weekend Intensive sessions receive free access to Open Studio time during the class and for up to one week after the session ends, providing additional time to put newly acquired skills into practice.

Refund Policy

For all Adult & Youth cancellations, we are unable to refund processing fees collected at the time of registration by our third-party class registration software Active. Any credit or refunds will be for the cost of the class only.

For Adult Student Cancellations: Please double check your calendar before signing up for a class! Our small team works very hard throughout the year to schedule each class and coordinate with our students. When you register for a spot in one of our classes, you are reserving a seat and committing to join us for that date and time. If for some reason you need to cancel a class you’ve signed up for, please note the following policies:

At least one month before class: Students may receive full refund or credit to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, One Day Classes and 4-Week Classes, and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops.

Less than one month before class: Students may receive credit only to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, and 4-Week Classes, One Day Classes and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops. We are unable to offer refunds with less than one month notice.

All requests for refunds or class credits must be made in writing via email to [email protected]. In addition to the timing guidelines above, we of course appreciate as much notice as possible when making any adjustments to registrations.

Coursehorse students will need to contact Coursehorse directly about cancellations or refunds. TAC cancellation policy will apply.

All classes, workshops, special events, and gift certificates are non-transferable. No refunds will be given on Gift Certificates. Gift Certificates are valid for (1) one year from the date of purchase.

CLASS MAKE-UP POLICY

Classes do not include individual Make Up sessions -- though you may be able to schedule a private lesson with your instructor based on their availability. We are unable to pro-rate classes or refund students who cannot to make it to class. If you have to miss a class, you are responsible for catching up during Open Studio time.

In any event where a student wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
