Programming 101: Pen & Paper Coding

Learn the fundamentals of programming using pen and paper only! Our unique method and small class size (4-8 people) teach you how to think in code and write real code during five knowledge-packed sessions. The course is very interactive and emphasizes solving exercises to ensure you will acquire the skills needed to solve real programming problems on your own! The transition towards programming on a computer will be straightforward once you have mastered the fundamentals we cover.

Further, the course's comprehensive syllabus works effectively with anyone serious about a future career in programming. Also, please note that many of our students come to us after having tried other classes without gaining the understanding they were hoping for.

The course fee includes a textbook written specifically for this course by the instructor, as well as video recordings of each class. Also, each session has been extended by 30 minutes.

Course outline: 

Session 1: 3.5 hours
Programming introduction, variables and assignment, strings and integers 

Session 2: 3.5 hours
Procedures & functions, The “Don't Repeat Yourself” principle, boolean logic, control flow

Session 3: 3.5 hours
Arrays, loops 

Session 4: 3.5 hours
Final*, algorithms, pseudo-code

Session 5: 3.5 hours
Object oriented programming, associative arrays, floating point numbers 

More information: No prior programming experience is needed, however, basic arithmetic knowledge is a prerequisite (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
